The British Virgin Islands’ (BVI) tax haven status is damaging the territory’s reputation and could lead to political instability. Economic performance is likely to outpace peers in the short term, owing to tourism recovery and strength in financial services, but its economic base is very narrow. Immigration will account for much of population growth, whilst a wealthy populace will support the consumer market. Internet and mobile use is rising, as is innovation potential.
