At the same time, more Vietnamese travellers have taken trips thanks to rising incomes, improved transport, and growing interest in travel fuelled by social media, especially TikTok content showcasing food and unique local experiences. Online booking platforms have also made travel easier and more affordable, contributing to strong gains across all travel-related sectors. So far, Trump-era policies on immigration and tariffs have had minimal direct impact on travel between the US and Vietnam. In fact, economic shifts related to tensions between the US and China have indirectly supported Vietnam’s travel industry by strengthening its economy and global profile. Therefore, Vietnamese tourism to the US and from the US to Vietnam has not been significantly disrupted as yet.
Airlines: Key trends
Retail sales for airlines in Vietnam are set to grow strongly in 2025 driven by high passenger demand, improved infrastructure, and strategic international expansion. A key development was the early completion and opening of Terminal 3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which significantly boosted the airport’s capacity and efficiency. Vietnamese airlines have also expanded their global reach: Vietnam Airlines has introduced 15 new international routes, including flights to Milan, Copenhagen, and Busan, while exploring North American destinations like Los Angeles and Vancouver. In addition, VietJet Air has added routes to major cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, and launched its first Oceania service between Ho Chi Minh City and Auckland.

The return of business events, like the Meet The Experts conference in Ho Chi Minh City, has also boosted hotel occupancy and room rates in major cities. In addition, national holidays such as Reunification Day, Labour Day, and Independence Day, especially the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, have attracted more visitors, further benefiting hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and popular tourist destinations across Vietnam.

Booking sales are set to grow in Vietnam in 2025 due to growing demand from both international and domestic travellers. They seek authentic outdoor experiences and avoid busy tourist hubs, driving growth in eco-tourism and wellness travel. At the same time, Vietnam is seeing growing interest in “spiritual lodging” stays focused on wellness, nature, and cultural heritage. This niche but rising trend attracts domestic tourists and wellness travellers seeking immersive experiences. In ethnic minority regions such as Ha Giang, Sapa, and Dak Lak, homestays offering spiritual rituals, ancestral worship, and shamanic practices provide a unique blend of relaxation and cultural connection.
