PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Health-consciousness may undermine greater growth during forecast period
Vietnamese consumers' interest in health and wellbeing is likely to continue to increase over the forecast period, as people focus more on fitness and weight loss. People are displaying a growing tendency to avoid foods that contain high levels of sugar and are instead opting to reduce their sugar intake in their daily cooking or deciding to purchase foods with less sugar when dining out.
Vietnamese government will remain invested in supporting domestic sugar production
The current policy of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy for cane sugar imported from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, and Myanmar is expected to continue in the forecast period, with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) having announced measures to prevent the evasion of trade remedies on cane sugar from these countries. To ensure fair competition and protect domestic production and sugarcane farmers, sugar imported from these ASEAN countries that uses Thai-origin sugar materials will now face the same anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tax rates as Thai sugar.
