PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Demand expected to remain stable
There is a growing push for farmers to aim for a higher production of vegetables in France – according to reports, currently around two-thirds of canned and frozen vegetables are imported, and the aim is to return to around 50%, which was a figure last seen in 2010. However, growing numbers of French vegetable producers are deciding to focus on growing cereals, as yields are more reliable and less susceptible to weather damage.
Sustainability and health concerns to exert growing influence
New laws came into force in January 2024, for dealing with organic waste. Already, in January 2023, companies and restaurants who produced more than five tonnes of bio waste were organising the sorting of this at source, as previously only required by organisations making more than 10 tonnes of bio waste.
