After Comercializadora Círculo CCK (CCK) - the Circle K franchisee in Mexico - acquired Grupo Modelo’s Extra stores in 2014, it signed an agreement the following year with Circle K US to convert the 700 Extra locations into Circle K stores. The transition was completed in 2024, officially consolidating Circle K as the third-largest convenience retailer in Mexico and marking the disappearance of the Extra brand from the market.
Strategic uncertainty amid potential acquisition of Seven & I by Alimentation Couche-Tard
Alimentation Couche-Tard, the global parent company of Circle K, has put forward a proposal to acquire Seven & I Holdings - the conglomerate behind the 7-Eleven brand. However, Seven & I Holdings has taken steps to block the acquisition and plans to remain independent by splitting into three separate entities by the second half of 2026 - one of which would focus on North American convenience stores.
