COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Major Asian speciality drinks players taking up greater shelf space
Expanding shelf space for Asian speciality drinks from Hung Fook Tong, Healthworks (Swire Coca-Cola Hong Kong Ltd), and Original Taste Workshop Limited has been evident towards the end of the review period, primarily through the dominant distribution channel, supermarkets, along with their own stores. Hung Fook Tong’s growth has been fuelled by a strategic partnership with local supermarket, ParknShop, allowing the latter to exclusively offer a range of flavours and products in its stores, while making the brand widely available across most supermarket locations.
New entrants disrupting the landscape
The landscape of Asian speciality drinks is also being disrupted by new entrants from international brands, particularly from Taiwan and Japan. For instance, Taiwan import Guliu Guliu has introduced speciality drinks made using a cold extraction method with real ingredients, such as Tong-Yan Pearl Barley drink, known for its beauty and metabolism boosting benefits, along with Tremella Fuciformis Snow Fungus drink, which is rich in polysaccharides and fibre, and contains real pieces of snow fungus for an authentic taste.
