Consumer electronics in 2025: The big picture
Consumer electronics in the Czech Republic is set to record modest retail volume growth in 2025, driven by demand for computers, wireless headphones and mobile phones. The largest contribution to volume growth will be from smart wearables, which continue to gain traction among Czech consumers.
2025 key trends
EU regulations now requires new consumer electronics, such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, wireless headphones, game consoles and other small to medium-sized electronic devices to have uniform charging ports. This marks a significant step toward reducing electronic waste and simplifying the consumer experience by creating a universal, uniform charging port for devices. Despite the regulation being in force since December 2024, laptops have until April 2026, to comply. White devices too small to accommodate a USB-C port, such as smartwatches, are exempt from the ruling.
Competitive landscape
Samsung Electronics Czech & Slovak s.r.o. remains the leading company in Czech consumer electronics in 2025, although it is expected to lose a small share. The competitive landscape has seen minimal change in volume terms over the 2024–2025 period, with the top five companies accounting for over 55% of total volume share. Samsung holds the long-term leading position across nearly all consumer electronics categories, particularly in smartphones and wearable electronics. It is followed by Xiaomi, Apple, Lenovo, and HP. Xiaomi has firmly established itself as the second-largest smartphone player in the Czech Republic. However, third-placed Apple Czech s.r.o. is expected to record the strongest gain in share in 2025, primarily driven by its performance in portable players and wireless headphones.
Channel developments
Retail e-commerce remains the leading distribution channel for consumer electronics in the Czech Republic in 2025, with its volume share rising further, making it the most dynamic channel overall. The success of retail e-commerce is fuelled by increased demand for online shopping, in addition to technological innovation, intensified competition, and regulatory shifts. Notably, platforms such as Temu and Shein have driven low-cost imports from China, further disrupting the market.
What next for consumer electronics?
Volume growth in consumer electronics in the Czech Republic is expected to remain relatively modest over the forecast period. Retail e-commerce and omnichannel distribution will continue to be crucial. Online consumer electronics is expected to experience gradual consolidation among leading companies rather than rapid expansion.
