PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Credit cards set to continue declining
The number of credit cards in circulation is projected to keep on declining in Poland over the forecast period, with the fall related to rising competition from other credit instruments as well as the prevalence of debit cards. The youngest generation of consumers entering the labour market, for whom a credit card is a little-known payment instrument, will further reduce the importance of credit cards.
Card-related bonuses may spark greater consumer interest
Issuers will strive to attract new clients with credit card offers of additional features such as discounts and rewards for payment transactions, moneyback or vouchers to popular retail stores. Bonuses during everyday shopping or travel benefits will be an important incentive for active credit card users.
Further card digitalisation foreseen
Issuers and operators will focus on innovative payment solutions that are consistent with the principles of sustainable development. Payment organisations will gradually eliminate plastic payment cards in favour of fully digital solutions, to allow immediate transactions without the need to wait for a physical medium, as well as to reduce the amount of plastic in circulation.

Credit Card Transactions
Credit cards allow for purchases against a preapproved line of credit. The account holder has the choice of whether to pay off the entire balance each month or opt for monthly instalments with the balance serving as revolving credit. If the cardholder decides to revolve a balance, the consumer pays interest. Credit cards can include affinity cards, reward cards and types of co-branded cards. Co-branded retailer cards—issued by retailers acting as financial institutions and without usage restrictions—are included in this category. Cards issued by a retailer with usage limited to a specific store within a predefined retail group fall under the store cards definition. Debit cards with an overdraft function are not counted as cards with a credit function. Payments are tracked based on the country of residence / account issuance and include outbound spend while excluding inbound spend.
