New CBE decree exempts users from fees through the InstaPay app
As the CBE continues to focus on Egypt’s Vision 2030 to support digital transformation, the bank has issued a decree exempting customers from all fees and commissions related to bank transfer services executed via electronic channels (internet banking and mobile banking applications) in the EGP, as well as waiving all fees and commissions related to banks’ transfers within the Instant Payment Network (IPN), such as seen with the InstaPay app which enables the payment of all utilities bills, and ease in sending money instantly.

A new bill payment app was showcased at GITEX AFRICA 2024, Africa’s biggest technology and start-up show. The app, namely Sahl, promotes itself as “the first mobile app that allows you to charge your electricity card directly from your phone in less than a minute by using NFC technology.

Fintechs are the ones to watch in pre-paid cards over the forecast period, such as seen with the aforementioned Sahl. Other examples include Opay Egypt, a burgeoning local fintech company, which secured approval from the Central Bank of Egypt to issue pre-paid cards to its users through a strategic partnership with the Egyptian cards company.
