Dairy products and alternatives in 2025: The big picture
In 2025, value sales of dairy products and alternatives are rising in Chile, as are volume sales. The improvement in volume sales growth follows two difficult years in which unit price increases, rather than consumption, sustained revenue. Performance is not uniform, however. Baby food is in decline as a long-term fall in Chile’s birth rate continues to weigh on infant milk powder volumes, while powder milk is losing ground as consumers favour the more affordable shelf stable milk.
Key trends in 2025
Private label is expanding rapidly in 2025, leveraging the bargaining power of Chile’s large retail chains. Consumers perceive products such as those from Cuisine & Co, Great Value, and Lider as offering quality comparable with leading manufacturers’ offerings but at lower prices, and these private label lines are strengthening their presence across virtually every dairy and alternatives category.
Competitive Landscape
Cooperativa Agrícola & Lechera de la Union Ltda retains overall leadership in 2025, with Soprole SA in second place and only marginal share separating them. The company has started the process in the Environmental Impact Assessment Service (SEIA), a project that will involve a significant investment for the construction of a cheese plant in the commune of La Unión (Province of Ranco in the Los Ríos Region, in the south of Chile). This began in January 2025 and is set to end in September 2026. The investment aims to diversify the brand's product portfolio (Colun) and increase the milk absorption capacity of the cooperative.
Channel developments
Supermarkets and hypermarkets remain the principal distribution channels in 2025, although supermarkets’ value share is edging lower as shopping patterns diversify. Together, these outlets still account for more than 60% of sales.
What next for dairy products and alternatives?
Over the forecast period, value sales are projected to see strong growth. Chile’s high per-capita consumption underpins this outlook, although some segments tied to infant nutrition are set to contract further as the birth rate keeps falling. Manufacturers will concentrate on products that align with health and wellness priorities, for example items high in protein but lower in fat and sugar, while private label will continue to gain because its quality-to-price ratio remains compelling.
