COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Landscape remains highly fragmented
The competitive landscape continued to be highly fragmented, with limited chains in operation. The largest chain was Pizza Hut, with a presence in several cities.
Trattoria Il Cacio gains most value share
The Italian chain Trattoria Il Cacio gained the most value share in 2025 and benefitted from a more premium positioning. Its five restaurants were acquired by the Nuba Group in 2023 and with Nuba’s expertise in premium restaurants and nightclubs, Trattoria Il Cacio has updated its menu with the new menu encompassing both modern and traditional.
Independent players to maintain their dominance
Independent restaurants continued to dominate full-service restaurants in Romania over the review period, with no new chained brands. In Bucharest and large cities, the development of downtowns with historic and pedestrian areas is attracting new players.

Full-Service Restaurants
FSR (full-service restaurants) encompasses all sit-down establishments where the focus is on food rather than on drink. FSR is characterized by table service and a relatively higher quality of food compared to quick-service units. Menus offer multiple selections and may include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Preparation of food products is often complex and involves multiple steps. NOTE: restaurants types catalogued in this segment refer to table-service only (outlets with a proper “full table service:” wait staff attending customers and taking orders at the tables). Outlets with “limited table service” are excluded from FSR. For example: outlets where customers order their food at the counter are excluded (even though the waiter will then bring the food at the table).
