PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Direct selling faces challenges for forecast period
Competitive pressure from e-commerce and other retail channels will persist and put direct selling under pressure during the forecast period, though overall sales will remain positive. An important advantage for direct sellers lies in their loyal customer base, as highlighted by the Spanish Direct Selling association, which notes that many buyers make repeat purchases.
Digitalisation trends set to accelerate
Like other areas of retail, direct selling will increasingly need to adopt an omnichannel approach if it is to remain viable in the forecast period. Digital sales platforms, online promotional tools and virtual meetings with more digitally adept consumers will likely become more prevalent.
Continued economic period should support the creation of new sales force
Economic conditions in Spain are expected to remain uncertain for the next two to three years, potentially resulting in the closure of businesses and a rise in unemployment. In response, many people may seek new ways to supplement their income, and the flexibility offered by direct selling companies could attract a significant number of new sellers.

Direct Selling
Direct selling is the marketing of consumer goods directly to consumers, generally in their homes or the homes of others, at their workplace, and other places away from permanent retail locations. Direct selling occurs in two primary ways: On a one-to-one basis (usually by prior arrangement a demonstration is given by a direct seller to a customer) or on a party-plan basis (selling through explanation and demonstration of products to a group of prospective customers by a direct seller usually in the home of a host(ess) who invites other persons for this purpose). Avon stands as a prime example of a direct seller using one-to-one selling, whereas Tupperware is famous for its party-plan method. Direct selling of services - such as insurance, telecoms, other utilities, and financial services - are excluded.
