Sales of beauty and personal care in El Salvador rose at a moderate rate in 2024. The inflation rate in El Salvador is among the lowest in the world and according to data from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) this country closed with a CPI of 0.3%, being the lowest in the previous four years. Although the country showed macroeconomic stability, it continued to face challenges in social development. According to World Bank data, it is estimated that about 25% of its population lives in poverty.

The supply of products with multiple benefits continues to grow, driven by Salvadorans who show an increasing tendency to prefer them. On the one hand, consumers perceive that beauty and personal care products with a greater number of attributes and more potent formulations more comprehensively meet their needs, thereby giving them the feeling that they get more benefits for their money. Moreover, they also perceive that a multi-benefit product represents a potential savings as a single product replaces the need to buy several others.

The beauty and personal care category in El Salvador is led by global companies, the most representative being Colgate-Palmolive Co and Unilever Group. Colgate-Palmolive enjoys broad leadership in oral care. Among the strengths of this company is its broad product portfolio, frequent launches and solid distribution structure not only in supermarkets but also in small local grocers. In 2024, in response to consumer price sensitivity in the country, the company focused on promoting toothpaste lines such as Colgate Triple Action Xtra in its EconoPack savings packages, highlighting their larger content, seeking to achieve a connection with consumers seeking to make savings through higher volume purchases.
