Beauty and personal care in Brazil saw solid growth in terms of value sales in 2024. The country’s recent economic progress has strengthened consumer finances and led to an increase in household spending. A significant factor supporting this trend is the fall in unemployment in 2023, the lowest level since 2015. This has boosted confidence and translated into robust household consumption. Each additional household generates average annual FMCG expenditure of around USD1,500, which is at least three times the extra spending typically created by an additional individual joining an existing household.

With food price inflation outpacing wage growth, household budgets remain under pressure, and there are risks that conditions may worsen before stabilising. Even higher-income households, which have historically displayed resilience, are showing more cautious patterns. As a result, value-seeking behaviour remained an important feature in 2024.
Competitive landscape
The competitive landscape for beauty and personal care in Brazil in 2024 reflected continuity in the ranking of the ten leading companies, unchanged from the previous year. Botica Comercial Farmacêutica and Natura Cosméticos remained at the forefront, benefiting from their long-standing strength in direct selling. Both companies have, however, continued to expand their reach beyond this channel, investing heavily in store-based retail presence and in digital platforms. Their portfolios in fragrances, skin care and hair care have benefited from the strong performance of these categories.
