PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Premium trend to gather pace as economy improves
Consumer spending on footwear is expected to improve from 2025 onwards, with the category continuing to see progressive increases in volume and value growth over the course of the forecast period. Economic growth and lower inflation will be the main catalyst for steady demand, with consumers keen to up their spend on footwear.
Circular economy will evolve in footwear
As a growing segment of Danish consumers continue to become more aware and concerned over the impact that their apparel shopping habits have on the environment, this will also impact footwear. The growing circular economy with result in more second-hand stores and a general trend towards more premium and longer lasting high-quality footwear over cheaper options.
E-commerce retailing is an imperative to support future prospects
E-commerce is set to remain the fastest growing channel over the forecast period, taking retail value shares from most other channels. Apparel and footwear specialists will retain the lead at the start of the forecast period, but e-commerce will make considerable inroads as the years progress.
