Footwear in the UK is poised for moderate yet consistent volume growth over the forecast period, propelled by evolving consumer preferences, sustainability commitments, and digital innovations. While inflation may initially curb stronger growth, the local market is set to recover as economic conditions improve, with demand driven by consumers seeking high-quality, durable footwear that offers long-term value.
Over the forecast period, footwear in the UK will face notable challenges driven by shifting consumer expectations, economic volatility, and increasing sustainability demands. Rising production costs due to inflation, energy price fluctuations, and labour expenses require brands to find ways to maintain quality without significantly raising retail prices in a price-sensitive market.
Brands offering footwear in the UK should prioritise innovation and DEI initiatives over the forecast period, in response to a growing consumer preference for eco-friendly and inclusive brands. Players can lead green innovation by adopting materials such as mycelium-based leather and recyclable components and by expanding take-back programmes for recycling or refurbishing used products, encouraging repeat business, and reducing waste.
