Footwear is expected to register stable volume and constant value growth over the forecast period. The growth in the population and the promotion of different models will encourage consumers to purchase more frequently.
As in apparel, footwear is equally impacted by growing concerns about the environmental impact of footwear production and what happens to the product at the end of its lifecycle. The Netherlands is known for having a relatively high shoe ownership, with the average Dutch woman owning ten pairs of shoes according to Schoenvisie.
With the widespread use of social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, young and middle aged consumers are using these channels to discover the latest footwear trends. With sales of sneakers increasing at a faster pace, manufacturers and retailers are resorting to online influencers to promote their products.
