PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Mass-market wine will become less affordable
During the forecast period, wine is expected to show a relatively good sales performance in Ukraine due to a growing culture of consumption, and some return to pre-war habits and behaviours, including celebrations and interest in low alcohol products. In 2025, excise tax on still wine increased, with both sparkling and still wine seeing significant minimum retail price revision by the government from December 2024 (+50%), which will negatively influence demand.
Demand for flavoured alcoholic drinks will extend into wine
After the successful launch of Fruit Collection under the Aznauri brand (Global Beverage Trade) in 2023, other players are also paying attention to still wine with flavours. Bayadera is investing in the Aliko brand (pomegranate, apricot flavours), while ATB-Market is developing the private label, Makami (plum, cherry).
Carton-packed novelties to drive economy segment of still wine
The cost-of-living crisis and significant increase in the minimum retail price from December 2024 (up by 50%) will drive demand for economy still wine in carton packaging. Brands such as Alazani Gori and Kakheturi, and the private label of ATB-Market already use such packaging.
