Sentiment in early 2025 remains cautious, with forecasts pointing to further declines in terms of total volume sales throughout the forecast period. Per-adult consumption has halved since 1970 - from 100 litres to roughly 50 litres in 2024 - as consumer preferences shift toward lighter, sometimes non-alcoholic beverages and a ‘drink less but better’ ethos, especially among millennials.
Greater diversification and more branded wines expected

Nolo trend likely to gather pace
Low alcohol and non alcoholic wines, once the preserve of specialists, are attracting major producers from Bordeaux, Languedoc-Roussillon and Côtes-du-Rhône AOCs. As in 2024, these operators are likely to lower alcohol levels in new launches from 12% to 9%, then 6% and ultimately 0%.
