Solid Growth Of Soft Drinks In 2025 Despite Ongoing Consumer Price Sensitivity
Retail volume sales of soft drinks grew in 2025. This growth was supported by GDP growth, which was up on 2024 when the economy was negatively impacted by the closure of the Panama copper mine and a drought that affected canal operations. Volume sales growth in soft drinks in 2025 was also supported by Panama’s warm climate, tourism and expansion in modern retailing. In health-related categories, including bottled water, sports drinks, and functional beverages, growth was fuelled mainly by hydration as consumers looked for drinks that fit active lifestyles and warm tropical conditions. However, value growth lagged behind volume due to the rising dominance of economy and private label products, increased promotional activity, and heavier competition in price-sensitive categories such as energy drinks and juice drinks. On another note, the foodservice channel grew strongly in 2025, supported by Panama’s growing economy, as well as growth in tourism, entertainment and dining-out activities. Carbonates also benefited through fountain formats in fast food and casual dining outlets, while sports and energy drinks became visible sponsors at sports tournaments and music festivals. Retail channels continued to dominate total sales due to their broader reach and affordability with household stock-ups of bulk bottled water and family-size juice packs remaining the main source of consumption.
