PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Demand for RTDs set to continue increasing over the forecast period
Total volume sales of RTDs are expected to continue growing over the forecast period, recording a 5% CAGR. Although the initial excitement towards the category in Brazil has marginally softened, new product development, higher shelf penetration, convenience and consumers’ curiosity are factors playing in its favour.
Exploration of local ingredients as a key strategy for small RTD brands in Brazil
Amid attempts to create notable differentiation within the category, particularly brands owned by major alcoholic drinks’ players, minor brands are likely to explore and use more local and exotic ingredients to capture the attention of consumers. As Brazil is a country with a rich abundance of natural fruits and ingredients, new products with specific and local flavours are set to become more prominent.
Discussions about new “sin tax” and the potential impact on RTDs
In 2024, the implementation of a ‘sin tax” was approved by the Federal Senate. However, the new tax framework is not expected to be implemented until the middle of the forecast period.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
