Total volume sales of RTDs in Hong Kong are expected to rise in 2025 in volume terms, and see a positive CAGR during the forecast period. Spirit-based RTDs is set to continue to account for the vast majority of sales, although non-alcoholic RTDs will continue to see the most dynamic growth from a low base.
RTDs is one of the few alcoholic drinks categories that can offer a hybrid drink that encompasses different segments of the beverages industry. For example, local spirits distillery Kowloon Spirits is experimenting with tea-spirits hybrids, such as Puer and Jasmine with local craft whiskies, to create a unique local RTD product, which could be an attractive proposition for local consumers who are curious about the new types of beverages available.
The emergence of Gen AI is poised to transform RTDs in various ways, mirroring its projected impact on the broader alcoholic drinks industry. One significant application of AI is in optimising the brewing process.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
