PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
RTDs will maintain healthy growth over the forecast period
RTDs will retain healthy growth over the forecast period, with ongoing strong competition and new product developments. The key audience for RTDs will continue to be younger adult consumers, who are attracted to the variety and ongoing innovations which RTDs offer.
Non-alcoholic RTDs appeal to consumers embracing sober lifestyles
Whilst RTDs remain popular overall, the non-alcoholic variants are particularly appealing to consumers embracing sober lifestyles. Indeed, a growing number of Canadian consumers are cutting down on their alcohol consumption, triggering overarching changes in the alcoholic drinks industry as a whole.
Distribution regulations will further help growh
From 2024, Canada’s largest province, Ontario, started allowing convenience stores to sell beer, wine, cider and RTDs. This will surely have a positive impact on off-trade growth over the forecast period, as it will provide quick and wider access to these drinks.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
