PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Investment by Société Anonyme des Boissons du Cameroun will boost supply
Total volume sales of RTDs will rebound in 2025, and growth in total volume sales will be stronger across the forecast period as a whole than in the review period. Growth will be underpinned by investment on the part of Société Anonyme des Boissons du Cameroun (SABC), not just in its own brands but also in those it acquired as part of its purchase of Guinness Cameroon.
RTDs based on indigenous plants offer a growth opportunity
There is a growing health and wellness focus in Cameroon, with strong consumer interest in RTDs infused with local ingredients. This trend has been led by Orijin Beer–made from kola nut, prune, oakwood, bitter orange peel, and wormwood.
Metal cans to grow in popularity as an alternative to glass bottles
Packaging for RTDs is poised to evolve, as SABC has already introduced a canned variant of its Booster brand, primarily available in supermarkets. The company plans to expand its 50cl metal tin packaging across the Booster range to enhance convenience, as many consumers find it burdensome to return a glass bottle or pay an additional XAF100 when purchasing bottled RTDs for at-home consumption.

RTDs
RTD stands for ‘ready-to-drink’. Other terms which may be used for these products are FABs, alcopops and premixes. The RTDs sector is the aggregation of malt-, wine-, spirit- and other types of premixed drinks. These drinks usually have an alcohol content of around 5% but this can reach as high as 10% ABV. Premixes containing a high percentage of alcohol of around 15%+ combined with juice or any other soft drink are included here. RTDs are usually marketed as products to be drunk neat, with ice, or as a cocktail ingredient. Fruit-flavoured, vodka-based spirits with an alcohol content of between 16-21% are classified here. Examples: Alizé, Ursus Roter, Berentzen Fruchtige, Kleiner Feigling.
