PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Affordability of beer will boost sales
The Costa Rican beer market is expected to return to positive volume growth over the forecast period. As a country with a high cost of living, consumers often look for affordable options when it comes to leisure spending - including alcohol.
Artisanal beer, while still niche, will continue growing
Costa Ricans enjoy exploring a variety of beers, with artisanal brews increasingly becoming a popular choice - even among mainstream consumers. Craft beer has established itself as a staple in the country, with many restaurants now featuring artisanal options on their menus.
Consumer´s growing interest in health and wellness will boost sales of low-calorie and zero alcoholic beer
Consumer interest in health and wellness continues to rise in Costa Rica, with many seeking low-calorie beverage options. While some individuals have shifted towards RTDs for these benefits, new beer offerings like Michelob are expected to draw them back to the beer category.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
