Beer is set to present steady growth in total volume terms over the forecast period. Sales should be supported by established habits, the favourable climate with long and hot summers, and thriving tourism.
Compared to other European countries non alcoholic beer still relatively underdeveloped in Portugal, although sales are set to accelerate over the forecast period. Rising health concerns and the possibility of drinking before driving or in a work context without compromising on flavour is set to continue supporting the growth and development on non alcoholic alcohol beer.
Innovation is set to be increasingly relevant for companies as they look to differentiate their products and brands from the competition and thereby attract consumers. Non/low alcohol beer will likely be one of the main areas of future investment in innovation, focusing on brewing technology and additional developments to allow for a high-quality beer and flavour but without the alcohol.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
