PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Demand for beer expected to grow, driven by younger demographics and changing consumption habits
Over the forecast period, the Egyptian beer market is expected to expand steadily as demand continues to grow, particularly among younger consumers. Shifting demographics, including a rising urban population and evolving cultural norms, are set to fuel further interest in beer consumption.
Price growth to fuel value gains across both off-trade and on-trade channels
Beer prices are projected to rise further during the forecast period as inflation continues to push up input costs, including raw materials, packaging and distribution. Price increases are expected to be particularly pronounced in the on-trade, where growing demand for premium venues and upscale bars will support higher pricing.
Innovation likely to remain limited in a monopolised market, but flavour opportunities exist
The outlook for product innovation in beer remains subdued, largely due to the monopolistic nature of the market. Al Ahram Beverages Co (ABC) remains the sole manufacturer of beer in Egypt, limiting the pace of new product development.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
