PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Price uncertainty will continue to hamper growth
Total value sales of beer will rebound in 2025, and over the forecast period as a whole, there will be significant growth, contrasting with the contraction seen in the review period. The ongoing expansion of dominant player Société Anonyme des Boissons du Cameroun (SABC) will play a key role in this.
Brewers may launch smaller bottles to boost affordability
With ongoing price disputes in the beer segment and prevailing economic challenges, brewers may reintroduce strategies such as winning capsules or launch smaller pack sizes to maintain affordability and stimulate demand among price-sensitive local consumers. Pub and bar owners have already unilaterally increased beer prices by between XAF50 and XAF100, while supermarket chains—led by DOVV—have indicated they may follow suit.
Canned beer to gain traction for at-home consumption and events
Beer packaged in tins (canned drinks) is growing in popularity for at-home consumption and events. Consumers are increasingly weary of having to bring an empty beer bottle for exchange when purchasing beer for home use or of paying an additional XAF100.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
