Beer sales in Norway are expected to experience a marginal volume decline over the forecast period. A decline in volume is anticipated in 2025, driven primarily by the continued impact of cross-border trade, as consumers seek more affordable options in neighbouring countries.
Demand for Norwegian-produced beer is expected to continue strengthening over the forecast period, driven by a rising consumer preference for small-scale breweries that offer unique pale ales and craft beer options. Consumers are increasingly drawn to distinct flavours, artisanal brewing techniques, and high-quality, locally sourced ingredients, factors that are collectively boosting interest in locally brewed beers.
Innovation in beer over the forecast period is expected to focus on non/low alcohol variants, in line with growing demand from increasingly health-conscious consumers. Oslo Brewing Co is among the companies at the forefront of this trend, currently developing two new non-alcoholic products: a tropical fruit-infused IPA and a Radler.

Beer
An alcoholic drink usually brewed from malt, sugar, hops and water and fermented with yeast. Some beers are made by fermenting a cereal, especially barley, and therefore not flavoured by hops. Alcohol content for beer is varied – anything up to and over 14% ABV (alcohol by volume), although 3.5% to 5% is most common. Beer is the aggregation of lager, dark beer, stout and non/low alcohol beer.
