Consumer Health in 2025: The big picture
Growth in retail current value sales of consumer health slowed significantly but remained in double digits in Uzbekistan during 2025. However, rising prices were the main driver of growth, with little growth in retail volume sales, as most local consumers remain very price sensitive. Nonetheless, demand remains buoyant, driven in part by a growing awareness of health and wellness in the wake of COVID-19 and increased self-medication.
Key trends in 2025
Cough, cold and allergy (hay fever) remedies remained the largest category in consumer health in 2025, accounting for around half of retail value sales, followed by digestive remedies. Strong sales of digestive remedies reflects both strong demand for gastrointestinal treatments and a growing consumer focus on metabolic health.
Competitive landscape
GSK Consumer Healthcare remained the leading company within consumer health overall in retail value terms in 2025, with its Theraflu brand ranking second in the cough, cold and allergy (hay fever) category. GSK Consumer Healthcare also offers the Sinecod brand for coughs and Fenistil brand for antihistamines/allergy remedies (systemic) in this category.
Channel developments
Pharmacies remain the dominant distribution channel for consumer health in Uzbekistan. However, the total number of pharmacy outlets is in decline, likely due to increased regulation. The reduction primarily affected Category "C" pharmacies: small, low-volume outlets that represent 37% of total pharmacy locations but contribute only 7% of total pharmacy sales. This rationalisation of underperforming retail points has allowed larger, more efficient pharmacy chains to consolidate sales.
What next for consumer health?
While volume growth may remain modest or decline in certain categories due to limited product availability, ongoing pharmacy consolidation, and new government regulations, retail constant value sales of consumer health are expected to remain resilient during the forecast period, driven by shifting consumer preferences and demand for higher-value products. The market is characterised by heightened competition, greater product differentiation, and state-backed initiatives to localise production.
