As the recent price shock subsides, chocolate confectionery is expected to see retail volume sales tip back into positive territory in 2026. However, it is then projected to post consistently negative results in this regard from 2027 onwards, mainly because Estonia’s population is shrinking due to low birth rates.
While global cocoa prices are expected to stabilise in the short-to-medium term, they are unlikely to return to pre-2024 levels due to ongoing supply challenges. Accordingly, chocolate confectionery producers in Estonia will continue to face elevated cost pressures over the forecast period.
With Estonians expected to remain cautious in their spending habits for some time to come, the aggregate value share held by private label in chocolate confectionery should continue to rise over the forecast period. Further gains will also be supported by new launches, improvements in quality standards and the expansion of large grocery retailers chains, most notably discounters operator Lidl.
