PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Difficulties expected to continue into the forecast period
Edible oils is set for steady growth in the UK over the forecast period, but there are several challenges and opportunities that will shape its future, particularly in light of ongoing climate concerns. The increasing demand for healthier edible oils means that some consumers will remain interested in olive oil, as it is often perceived as a premium and nutritious option.
Opportunity for new blends and formats of edible oils
A key trend set to shape the future of edible oils in the UK is the introduction of hybrid oil blends, which aim to combine both nutritional benefits and affordability. For example, Belazu, a premium brand known for its high-quality Mediterranean ingredients, launched two new products in June 2024: a Spanish Single Origin Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a Mediterranean Blend.
Interest in better-for-you edible oils could push further value and adoption
A key trend is the growing demand for better-for-you edible oils, which are perceived as healthier alternatives to traditional options such as vegetable oils. Consumers are increasingly mindful of the nutritional content of the oils they use, favouring those with perceived health benefits, such as high levels of omega-3, unsaturated fats, and antioxidants.
