Retail current value sales of snacks in Kuwait are projected to rise strongly in 2025, faster than in 2024 and the review period CAGR. Retail volume sales are also expected to rise healthily in 2025, in line with 2024 and the review period CAGR. Forecast faster retail current value than volume growth reflects still significant inflation and unit price growth.
One key trend is the rising popularity of healthier snacks amongst high-income consumers, such as nuts, seeds and trail mixes and vegetable, pulse and bread chips. High-income consumers and some upper-middle-income ones increasingly view such options as healthier snacking alternatives during the day, as their nature-based formulations and wholesome claims respond to demands for healthy, satiating foods.
Mars Inc is set to remain the leading company within snacks in retail value terms in 2025, with a largely stable share. The confectionery giant is predominantly present in chocolate confectionery, with a portfolio of established brands like Bounty, Galaxy, Mars, Snickers and Twix in countlines and M&M's and Maltesers in chocolate pouches and bags and Galaxy Jewels in boxed assortments.
Hypermarkets is set to remain the leader in the distribution of snacks in 2025, with a rising retail value share. Despite snacks’ impulse factor, consumers in Kuwait are accustomed to buying their groceries from hypermarkets, followed by supermarkets and small local grocers. They tend to purchase confectionery, for example, either for their children or themselves, during weekly grocery trips. Furthermore, shopping malls, by virtue of the structure of Kuwaiti culture and the market, are the usual entertainment venues for consumers of all ages. Shopping malls house hypermarkets or supermarkets that support confectionery sales. Within this context, hypermarkets also includes government-owned and managed cooperative societies (coops), which are a primary channel in Kuwait’s grocery retailing scene, due to the government’s influence on their prices. All these grocery retailers stock the widest variety of snacks and conduct regular promotions, especially on bulk purchases.
Retail volume and value (constant 2025 prices) sales of snacks are set to see good CAGRs, although growth rates are likely to slow as the forecast period progresses.
