Positive Economic Indicators And Economic Policies In Argentina Boost Sales Of Hot Drinks In Paraguay
The country’s GDP grew 3.6% in 2025, placing it among the strongest economies in the region. In this regard, the World Bank (WB) updated its global economic projections and placed Paraguay as the second-fastest-growing economy in the year, behind Argentina. Consequently, income levels rose and living standards improved, resulting in further expansion of the middle class and a further erosion of poverty. These positive economic indicators boosted purchasing power and an expansion of middle and upper-income consumers and enabled sales of hot drinks to achieve moderate growth during 2025. The market was also assisted by a reduction in contraband from Argentina thanks to Argentina’s transformation programme led by Milei, which led to an appreciation of the Argentine peso. This made products from Argentina more expensive and discouraged cross-border shopping, which notably decreased during 2024 and 2025. On-trade consumption of hot drinks also continued to recover with people resuming their out of home activities in full. As a result, the on-trade also began to develop in Asunción and its surrounding cities, as well as border cities, such as Ciudad del Este and Encarnación, all of which boosted sales of hot drinks. Nevertheless, growth in foodservice remains much slower in rural areas.
