PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Brands are set to boost consumer confidence through conscious initiatives
The sports nutrition market in India is forecast to grow at a strong double-digit CAGR over the next few years, driven by rising fitness awareness, easier product access, and growing adoption across both urban and semi-urban consumers. As the category expands beyond muscle building into general wellness, authenticity has emerged as a defining theme shaping future growth.
Innovation beyond whey and functional formats will accelerate future growth
India’s sports protein market is set to evolve beyond traditional whey and plant-based sources, as brands experiment with next-generation, gut-friendly and sustainable protein alternatives. A major innovation on the horizon is bio-fermented yeast protein, which offers a clean, vegan, and highly digestible source of nutrition.
Reduction in Good and Services Tax (GST) to accelerate growth in sports nutrition
The Government of India has announced a major Goods and Services Tax (GST) reduction for nutraceuticals, including sports protein powders, multivitamins, and health supplements. Effective September 22, 2025, the GST rate is set to drop from 18% to 5%, as part of a wider effort to make essential health and wellness products more affordable.
