PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Positive outlook over forecast period
The positive economic outlook will support continuing volume growth of carbonates. That being said, other soft drinks such as juice and RTD tea, will steal volume share, as some consumers look for soft drinks with a healthier profile.
Competition remains tight between larger players
Competition will continue to be tight and there will continue to be investment in production facilities, as players look to maximise efficiencies with more advanced technology. As discussed earlier, the Coca-Cola Company recently invested USD20 million in upping its production capacity and Industrias San Miguel del Caribe recently announced a further investment of USD50 million to expand and modernise its production plant in Santiago Rodríguez.
Potentially stricter regulations dampen volume sales
Public health authorities are looking to curb the consumption of carbonates, particularly among children, due to their high sugar content. In relation to this, in July 2024, a bill was passed that would prohibit the sale of carbonates in school cafeterias.
